When the Moon Touched the Sun #4

They stood there for moments, still like a statue and the world revolved around them. To them the moments filled seconds but to the rest of the world they filled hours.

When they finally, and reluctantly, broke apart from holding each other so tight, they had both decided what needed to be done.

“I can’t bear to be apart from you again. Let us run away together, then nothing will keep us apart.” Said Sun, holding the Moon just far enough so that his eyes could roam the plains of her face, looking for her answer.

“Oh Sun, I was thinking the same thing. I want to be with you, I don’t know how I’d be able to live if I let go of you now.” She buried her head in his chest and took a great sigh, her heart fluttering as his sent filled her nose.

“Come my dear, we will saddle our steeds together and ride off with a chariot and four, racing among the lights of the universe.”

And with that word one chariot was formed and the four horses obediently backed in to their places, waiting patiently as a harness wrapped itself around them binding them together, just like the Moon and Sun were now joined. Their work done they walked forward ready to gallop off and disappear forever.

But the universe, suddenly realising what had happened, roared in anger turning the sky red with fire. It opened its maw, a great black hole that held all the darkness imagined, and boomed, “No! You are to stay, you are to stay separated!”

The lovers looked up, staring in to the mouth of the universe. The stood still, their fingers intertwined as they held each other’s hands, determined to face their monster together.
