When the Moon Touched the Sun #7

Suddenly the Sun and the Moon stopped fighting, the monsters that had once formed a massive wall of black had fallen away and they viewed the scene of devastation before them. The world let out the first whimper of battle, only now did it feel the pain of everything that had happened. The Sun turned to the Moon and embraced her, kissing the top of her head and stroking her hair.

“It’s over.” He whispered to her.

“You may have won the battle, but the war has yet to end.” A steely voice said.

Turning from each other the Sun and the Moon looked upon a cloaked figure in front of them. A hood obscured the face and folds of cloth masked any flesh, the hem sat heavily upon the floor, the excess material splayed out around him.

“The war is over.” Said the Moon. “The universe has lost.”

“No. The universe can drag you back, it will find you and then everything will be worse.”

“Nothing could be worse than what we have gone through, and the universe knows that it will never find us and it’s scared. Leave us alone, you have no business in this matter.” Said the Sun shifting his body so that he was standing slightly in from of the Moon, ready to protect her.

“I do though. The universe asked me to help and so I am obliged to. For the sake of yourselves, back down now.” His voiced raised with warning.

“Why doesn’t the universe come here itself?”

“Would you like it to?” the hooded man asked curiously.

“Yes, if it was cowardly enough to call off the battle and let us win, the least it can do is come and try to defeat us face to face.” Said the Moon refusing to let the Sun protect her, at a time like this, and stepped aside to stand shoulder to shoulder with him.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” the Sun asked the Moon quietly.

“Yes, we can defeat it, as one we are powerful.” She whispered back.

He nodded to her then addressed the hooded man. “We challenge the universe.”

The man nodded in acceptance of their wish. He drew up his arms and with fingers still veiled pushed back his hood.

When the Moon Touched the Sun #6

The Sun howled lunging forward to slice through one of the creatures. Black blood spurted from the wound and covered the Sun’s sword, speckling his armour. More of them touched down on to the floor and at once roots tore from their slumber underground, wrapping themselves around the pointless existence and crushing them. The Moon held back for a moment and then ran forward in to the fray slicing away at anything that stood between her and her Sun. She ran to fight by the side of her man, protecting him as he did her.

The Earth fought for its parents and its parents fought for the Earth. The three were no match for the fears that the universe hurled at them, they defeated all that locked them in combat and never grew weary despite the large number of monsters that continued to rain down on them.

No weapon touched their skin and their bodies were unmarred by ripe wounds, like the ones that covered their foe. The Earth was undaunted by the carnage that littered its surface, it strove to defend the Sun and Moon, making everything more difficult for the foe. Lava slid across the surface, setting alight the beautiful world that the Moon had once cried for, waves of salty water drowned the bad and earth rose and fell, crushing all.

The universe grew scared as the battle escalated, it knew at some point it was lose and then they would turn on it, defeat it. It could only do one thing, could only surrender and bargain with them, hope that they came back; if they ran away they would never be found again.

When the Moon Touched the Sun #5

The universe seethed, sending waves of white fire washing over the planets and the stars so they quivered with submission. The Earth drew power from its parents and didn’t shrink back from the displays of anger shown by the universe.

“We will not back down! You can control us no longer!” cried the Sun in to the sky, standing tall and proud.

“You would bring war on your dear child Earth, Sun and Moon?” the universe mocked.

“Our child Earth is stronger than you know, we will defeat you.” Answered the Moon.

“So be it. If it’s war you wish for, it is war you shall have.”

From the darkness of the universe flooded the creatures of nightmares. Grotesque beings cawed and screeched, making their way towards the willing warriors. The Sun and the Moon stood, waiting, ready in armour with weapons at their side, poised to strike the first creature that attacked.

The Moon turned to the Sun, “Promise me that we’ll still escape.”

“Of course my dear Moon, when this is over we will tend to our wounds and run away, playing among the stars.” He quickly leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the lips. “When we are free we can be together again.”

The Moon smiled at him. “Give them hell.” She whispered, unconcerned with the imminent threat that loomed over their heads.

When the Moon Touched the Sun #4

They stood there for moments, still like a statue and the world revolved around them. To them the moments filled seconds but to the rest of the world they filled hours.

When they finally, and reluctantly, broke apart from holding each other so tight, they had both decided what needed to be done.

“I can’t bear to be apart from you again. Let us run away together, then nothing will keep us apart.” Said Sun, holding the Moon just far enough so that his eyes could roam the plains of her face, looking for her answer.

“Oh Sun, I was thinking the same thing. I want to be with you, I don’t know how I’d be able to live if I let go of you now.” She buried her head in his chest and took a great sigh, her heart fluttering as his sent filled her nose.

“Come my dear, we will saddle our steeds together and ride off with a chariot and four, racing among the lights of the universe.”

And with that word one chariot was formed and the four horses obediently backed in to their places, waiting patiently as a harness wrapped itself around them binding them together, just like the Moon and Sun were now joined. Their work done they walked forward ready to gallop off and disappear forever.

But the universe, suddenly realising what had happened, roared in anger turning the sky red with fire. It opened its maw, a great black hole that held all the darkness imagined, and boomed, “No! You are to stay, you are to stay separated!”

The lovers looked up, staring in to the mouth of the universe. The stood still, their fingers intertwined as they held each other’s hands, determined to face their monster together.

When the Moon Touched the Sun #3

The Moon turned, startled, and saw a hansom man in front of her. Tall and muscled, he was the colour of rich ochre, his eyes pools of warm brown, he was clothed in sunrays themselves. The Moon knew who stood before her and tears threatened to burst forth from relief.

The man looked at her with kindness in his eyes, kindness that she had never seen before. He fell to one knee and bowed his head to her. "Oh my beautiful lady, you do me a great honour in playing in my world."

The Moon reached forth and tilted the Sun's chin up. "No my lord, it is you who does me the honour, by letting me in. Till this day I have never known that such beauty could exist."

The Sun stood, clasping the Moon's hand between his own. "But you are beauty it's self, I am ashamed that you can even see what is before you, a creature as wonderful as you should not look upon something so dull and gray in comparison."

The words of her lover became all too much. "Oh my dear Sun," she said, her eyes glistening. "I could have never imagined that you'd be so kind, nor so hansom."

"My lady," Sun said, pulling her close to his chest. "There is no need to cry, I only say the truth. You must not cry, sadness is too dark an emotion for a face like yours to bear."

"Oh Sun. Sun, I do not weep for sadness, I weep for joy, I can finally be with you, after all this time apart I waited for you and you came to me." she looked up at him a smile on her face. "Hold me Sun, hold your Moon."

She wrapped her arms around his strong torso, keeping him in an iron grip. Realising what the woman had just said, what his Moon had just said, he put his arms around her, returning the embrace. He nuzzled at her hair and whispered, "My beloved Moon, you waited for me, just like you said."

When the Moon Touched the Sun #2

With chariots of sun rays and moonbeams the two lovers chase one another across the sky, all the while calling each other, trying to ride faster so that they may catch up with their other half. All the while the universe looks on with growing amusement at their sadness.

Then one day, the universe forgot to hold back the Moon while the Sun chased the inky black trail, the Moon felt the lack of force that usually stopped her, tentatively she peaked above the horizon and saw before her the glorious work of her Sun. He lit up the sky so as to make it clear, his sun rays spilling forth from his wake dotting the floor and turning water to diamonds before her very eyes. Blown away by the new found beauty the Moon started to weep, she had never seen anything so divine, her world was silent and cold, while this world, the world that her darling touched was beauty incarnated. At that point she wished more than ever to be touched by her Sun so that she may be beautiful like the world that he commanded.

She pushed her chariot forth slowly, letting the Night horses clamber over the edge, she brought them to an abrupt holt once they were over and set them down on her child Earth, who smiled with excitement at being able to see its parents together and happy. The Moon looked down at the green grass before her and wept more, she had never noticed just how full of life her child Earth was, it angered and upset her that the universe had forced her to keep away from being able to spend time in her opposites domain.

Slowly she stepped from the cart, her bare feet refreshed by the springy and luscious grass beneath them. She started to walk, and then run, her feet flying across earth and water, she splashed trough streams, sending cascades of water to soak her and leaving droplets of water to hit the surface with a tinkle. She skipped about, exclaiming glee and laughing with her child Earth as she played in this new world.

Far above her the Sun pushed his horses on, frustration plain on his face. Then he heard the soft laughter of a stranger. The voice was familiar but he had never heard it before, in all his time. He rained the horses in and looked over the edge, down to the surface of his child Earth. There he saw a woman, the most beautiful woman he could have imagined, she was clad all in silver which shimmered like moonbeams. Her skin was white like snow, her eyes a startling blue and her hair the colour of softest corn silk. The woman ran around, spinning and jumping and laughing as if she had found life itself.

Within him the Sun felt his heart burst as she looked up in to the sky, he knew that he wanted her, something old drew him to her. He turned his Day horses and drove them down to the surface of his child Earth, landing hard on the floor very near to the beauty that had stolen his heart.

When the Moon Touched the Sun #1

The Moon, beautiful and silent. The Sun, bold and vibrant. Opposites in the universe, and yet both so in love with each other. They look upon their child Earth, protecting it from the horrors and destruction of the universe itself. Both Moon and Sun are only able to see each other when the day is beginning or closing. At those times beauty surrounds the Earth, wrapping it in a warm blanket, the Sun glows brighter, his heart growing larger, happier, light bursting fourth streaking molten gold across the sky, trying to touch his beloved Moon. He calls to his Moon, cries for her to wait for him.

"I'll wait for you" she cries back, struggling to reach out to him but all the while growing ever more transparent until she sinks below the horizon and out of his view.

Then the sun stops his reaching, the previous blinding flash of light dumbs down to a soft gray, the Sun hanging it's head, the Earth weeping. While the Moon cries out for her beloved, tears staining her beautiful face.

For hours the Moon hides away, giddily awaiting the time when she may see her Sun, just below the Earths horizon she waits, and waits. Wanting with every fibre of her being to appear earlier, to chase the Sun and touch him. But the universe, a cruel and unkind force, holds her back, laughing as she struggles to appear for her Sun, finally pushing her away when the Sun is too far away for her to reach in time.

Sometimes the universe will let the Moon go just as the Sun sinks below the horizon, it howls with cruelty as the Moon cries, shedding silver tears that merge with the black velvety sky that is her Sunless kingdom. At those times, to her, all hope of touching her dear Sun is lost, she turns from her child Earth, hiding herself in shadow, silently weeping, unable to stop the dark thoughts of a hopeless love.
