The Sun fell
to his knees, spent. His grief and loss gone, leaving him empty, but he smiled,
he had defeated the universe.
A cough
caught his attention, a cough from something in front of him. The cough of
something powerful. His heart raced in panic, it shouldn’t be possible, how
could the universe be that powerful?
“An
impressive show.” It said, feeling as relaxed at before, if that was all the
danger he was in from the Sun then the universe had nothing to fear.
“But… I
don’t understand.” The sun stood slowly, ash coated his clothes. “What went
wrong?”
“I told you,
I am powerful. You do have some inkling, but it is unrefined, and will likely
stay that way now.”
“No, I will
defeat you.”
“I admire
your conviction, but I wonder what your fire has to feed on now that she’s
gone.”
“She? You
mean Moon. She’s not gone, she’s… oh no!” realisation hit the Sun, how could he
have ignored his helpless Moon? He turned on the spot, but all that surrounded
him was ash, a barren landscape and bleak horizon. “Where is she? What did you
do to her?”
“I think the
better question is what did you do?”
“I would
never hurt her! You must have stolen her away, where did you hide her?”
The universe
gestured around itself. “Where could I have hidden her?”
“No, no, no,
no.” the Sun hit the ground again, pushing his fingers through the ash, trying
to find a clue, a remnant. “Help me!” he screamed at the universe.
The universe
just smiled. “Well this has been fun. Until next time I suppose.”
With barely
the blink of an eye the universe disappeared, leaving the Sun to desperately
search a burnt Earth for something, anything, which could lead him to his lost
love.
